Blackheath is a wealthy area of London. Sometimes described as a “London village, it is 
often likened to other prosperous areas of the capital, such as Hampstead, due to its affluence and distinctive village-like character. It is considered to be a hidden gem of London, possibly as a result of it not being supplied by London’s extensive tube network. However, the residential areas are particularly attractive to City professionals on account of its good transport links. Blackheath is largely residential with its properties generally being Victorian or Georgian family homes.
The main center of Blackheath is known as Blackheath Village, but it is in fact a suburb of London. It lies to the south side of the Heath in the vicinity of Blackheath railway station, and is home to numerous fashionable shops, restaurants and pubs. All Saints’ parish church stands on the heath itself.
Just south of the railway station is the Blackheath Conservatoire of Music and the Arts. Next door is Blackheath Halls.

The heath is host to a free annual fireworks display on the Saturday in November closest to Guy Fawkes Night. Blackheath is also notable for being where the world famous VirginLondon Marathon begins.
